Quick Reference: Connecting and Handling Probe

Purpose

Article contains specific guidance on how to operate and handle the Thermal Probe.

Key Highlights

Probe

If your probe is not connecting to your Memo, it could need to be paired or the battery might need replacing. Please review the guidance, below, in order to resolve your issue.

PROBE NOT PAIRING

This means that the probe is not connecting to the memo via Bluetooth and usually a hard reboot on the memo should fix the issue.

RECOVERY OPTIONS:

  1. Hard Reboot (In most cases, this step should resolve the issue).
  2. If prompted to log back into the control centre (Only happens when customer had lost their network or control centre connection). Please note that this is optional
  3. Removing the battery and reinserting it (to understand if this is a battery or hardware related issue).
  4. Replacing the faulty device (We need to understand if it is the probe or memo that needs replacing).

STEP 1 - HARD REBOOT

  1. Hold down the Power Off/On button for 7-10 seconds (ignore the on-screen Power Off option) until the screen goes black, then simply turn it back on by pressing and holding on to the power button until you feel the device vibrates and release.
  2. Please note that this can take up to a minute to come back on sometimes.

STEP 2 - LOG INTO CONTROL CENTRE ON MEMO

  1. Please make sure that you have an Administrators credentials (email address and password) to log back into the memo after the reboot, if prompted.
  2. If you are not an Administrator, please speak with Checkit Support team and they will be able to assist you with an Engineers Login Details.

STEP 3 - REMOVING AND RE-INSERTING THE BATTERY

  1. If not successful, proceed with removing the probe battery cover, then remove the battery and re-insert it back (observing the plus and minus sign).
  2. You should see a red light appear on the opposite side to the battery. Then try pairing the probe and memo together again (Select a check that requires a probe temperature check, and this will prompt you to take a temperature reading).

NOTE: The Probe battery life is very much depending on how long each measurement takes, as much as up to 125 days which is equivalent to 4 months battery life.

  1. This is not a rechargeable battery - it will need to be replaced when flat. Do not attempt to recharge the battery.
  2. The battery required is a specific type - a 3V CR123A Lithium Battery. These are available online or from electronics retailers. You must not use other batteries, as they could damage the probe.
  3. Changing the battery is simple. The battery is located inside the Probe under the end cap.
  4. Remove the end cap by rotating it anti-clockwise, and replace the battery found inside like for like.
  5. You should see a red light flash if the battery and probe are now working. If not, try again, and if still no red flash, let us know.
  6. Replace the cover and you're done.

STEP 4 - REPLACING THE FAULTY THE DEVICE

  1. If not successful, you will need to identify which part, probe or memo is faulty and may need replacing?
    • If you have more than one device, please proceed with the following exercise below:
      • Try pairing the reported probe to a different memo?
      • Try pairing a different / new probe with the reported memo?
    • If none of the above works, please note that we will need to be replacing either the probe or memo. (This depends on the investigation outcome).
  2. Email help@checkit.net to report your faulty probe.
